Ideal Corp was formed in a partnership between Spantec Systems and Kavanagh Industries who between them have over 70 years of experience in their respective industries. There are solid similarities between both business:

  • Both are leaders in innovation with many great examples executed throughout each of their businesses
  • Both have steel as the core material in their product ranges with a combined volume of over 4,000 tonnes per year including the Ideal Group
  • Both have set high benchmarks in automated manufacturing within their related industries
  • Both business are driven with the latest technology; in design, manufacturing and managing their overall businesses.

Combining their expertise with decades of consistent growth they brought their building and construction experience to the screw piling and geotechnical industries to form Ideal Corp.

Making building easy!

Since 1991 Spantec Systems has been a leading innovator of light structural steel beams and specialists in steel flooring systems. They have an ability to be first in the market such as; pioneered steel flooring systems in Australia, created the concept of using adjustable steel piers under sub-floors and were the first to have a light structural steel beam for home improvements.

Spantec has a ‘boots and all’ kind of philosophy! They design flooring/roofing systems, manufacture the components for the systems and develop the software to design the systems including manufacturing. Starting with Boxspan beams, they’ve also introduced other innovative products; Ezipier adjustable steel piers, Colorbeam architectural roof beams for home improvements, Ezibrace high capacity sub-floor bracing as well as a range of propriety brackets to simplify assembly.

Spantec’s manufacturing facility, which is largely automated, is situated near Mittagong in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW and service customers Australia wide.

High volume, fast turnaround, good quality ductwork, at competitive prices – that’s the Kavanagh difference

Kavanagh Industries has steadily grown to become the largest ducting manufacturer in Australia. Their 26,000 m2 manufacturing facility is located in Smithfield, NSW. The manufacturing plant is currently averaging a monthly steel usage of 185 tonnes, with a maximum monthly capacity of approximately 265 tonnes. This equates to an average of 650 to 1000 pieces of duct daily. The infrastructure and systems they have developed and put in place, enable us to produce and deliver multiple large projects simultaneously.

Kavanagh Industries offers the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) into its ductwork manufacturing sector. With the use of cutting edge technology they have the facilities available to process 3D drawings and download them direct to our state of the art CNC machinery.

Notable Projects



  • The business was formed by Kavanagh Industries in may 2008 under a franchise licence to operate in NSW.
  • The business offered a slab solution using screw piers for residential construction.


  • In July 2009 Spantec Systems purchased 50% of the business bringing their flooring design experience.
  • The team grew quickly with the appointment of a general manager in September 2009.
  • By the end of 2009 the business model was redefined with two distinct divisions:
    • Geotechnical investigations
    • Screw pier manufacturing and installations


  • The name Ideal Foundations was formed and the business continued under the two divisions.
  • With consistent growth, management initiated a business review and was accredited through the ISO 2001:2009.


  • With a solid footing in the residential housing market and growing into new segments the business reviewed it’s overall brand. Ideal Corp was established as the parent company with each division adopting the Ideal name (Ideal Geotechnical & Ideal Foundations).
  • The next phase of expansion was to grow geographically with the Queensland office being the first to open.  Located in Arundel to cover South East Queensland.


  • The Ideal Geotech division set up an independent company owned NATA accredited laboratory. Brining the testing facility in house allowed for quicker turnarounds for customers while expanding our testing services.
  • Along with the new testing facility, engineering was also brought in house with the appointment of geotechnical and civil engineers.
  • The lot classification service grew and with 4 rigs completing over 2600 tests per year.
  • The Ideal Foundations division began offering a concrete pier replacement with the Ideal screw pier. The off the self Ideal screw pier system changed how builders and engineers saw screw piers/piles as they were now affordable for any site – not just for difficult sites.


  • With engineering staff now in house we established a strong R&D testing regime to improve and redesigned the domestic screw pier.
  • Ideal Foundations then introduced a broader range of piers – 70kn -500kn.
  • The new higher capacity piers expanded the offering to light industrial and commercial projects.


  • In September 2016 Ideal Corp further grew geographically with the Purchase of Anchorpile in South Australia. A well established screw pile business.


  • Doubled our under roof manufacturing footprint as we continued to grow.
  • Produced a Technical Specifiers guide to assist engineers and designers.
  • Increased our team of soil technicians along with widening our geographical coverage of NSW and ACT.
  • Solved the challenge of narrow access to the rear of properties by purchasing a purpose built machine to help pool, granny flat and deck builders.
  • Introduced online Lot Classification ordering for account customers, which was another first for the geotechnical industry. Customers log in and order 24/7 with orders automatically entered into our scheduling system.

  • Added to our suite of Geotechnical Services offerings including L1 compaction testing.
  • Set up multiple welding stations allowing us to provide a range of solutions for our customers across various load capacities
  • We upgraded our standard pier to use a thicker wall while still maintaining our advantage of a modular pier system that reduces transportation costs, assists with speed of installation and means we do not need to weld extensions on site.
  • Moved screw pier manufacturing into the modern age by installing a robotic manufacturing system for our modular products.


  • With the introduction of online ordering for account customers, it was time to open it up for anyone to purchase Lot Classifications online. Customers enter their postcode to get a price and lead-time. If we service the postcode they just complete site and payment details. Online purchases are automatically entered into our scheduling system 24/7.
